This past Saturday, the project team launched our outreach efforts at the Sultan Farmers Market. Alongside local vendors selling fresh produce, flowers, honey, soaps, and more, our stall gave residents and visitors the opportunity to weigh in on the next 20 years of Sultan.
We loved hearing from new families, young children, seasoned residents, visitors, and more. Three big takeaways are:
People love Sultan’s sense of community and parks but want more - Parks and open space are key destinations for almost everyone we talked to, and many families and kids look forward to more options on Sultan Basin Road.
Gathering places, destinations for kids, and grocery stores are on the wish list - Many residents mentioned the need for dedicated third places like cafes, bookstores, and other spaces for community gathering. There’s also a strong interest in more downtown destinations for kids and a more robust grocery store.
Highway congestion and a lack of economic development opportunities are ongoing challenges to work through - Frustrations about US-2 are ongoing and many residents question the potential for business growth and new job opportunities.
If you didn’t make it to our booth, don’t worry! We have plenty of upcoming opportunities for you to learn and share ideas about the comprehensive plan update. Check the Events tab regularly and consider signing up for project updates on the website home page. We also encourage you to fill out our first community survey!
This past weekend, we asked new residents, long-time community members, and visitors about their favorite places in Sultan. This led to conversations about local assets, like the Sno Isle Library, Sultan’s great parks, and beloved services like the Sultan Veterinary Clinic. It also gave us the opportunity to hear about the biggest challenges like US-2 congestion and insufficient job opportunities. All in all, the project team valued conversations with everyone that stopped by and we look forward to more of these interactions during the next market on July 1.
